Jamie’s Italian Deli – Bath
Jamie’s Italian is the fast growing restaurant chain founded by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver in Oxford in 2008.
The chain offers good quality food in my opinion in a well-styled and friendly environment, now in well over 30 locations including hot spots in London as well as Bath, Cheltenham, Nottingham, Leeds, Liverpool and Bristol to name just a few with expansion overseas.
What is perhaps little-known is the spin off Jamie’s Deli’s which offer simple food and great coffee in smaller locations.
The Bath Deli, which was the first of the satellite brand to the main restaurant chain, is almost opposite the main restaurant and is situated in Milsom Place, home to other great restaurants Carluccio’s and Cote.
The Deli is a real favorite of mine as you can sit and watch the world go by, whether sat inside or out, and the clever use of space makes it very inviting made all the better by the friendly staff.
Free WiFi and several seats with plug sockets make it a great place to stop by for a quick meeting or to catch up with emails on your own.
There is a great range of pizza slices, delicious home made sausage rolls, salads which are incredible and simple sandwiches and ciabatta’s most of which are prepared in the Jamie’s Italian kitchen opposite, so are fresh every day. Everything is available to eat in the lovely Deli or to takeaway if you live or work locally.
Today I enjoyed a simple mushroom pizza slice with broccoli and carrot salad with spicy tomato dressing, with a bottle of sparkling water for £9.90 which given the location, atmosphere, accessible wi-fi and plug sockets is quite good value and is a fairly substantial meal.
One thing to note is that there are no toilets in the Deli itself, however you can use the main restaurant ones opposite so it really isn’t a problem.
It is easy to see why Jamie Oliver and the chain have become so successful when you see the attention to detail from the fit-out to the food and service.
Just be prepared to be bombarded a bit with Jamie branded products for sale all around you! There are some lovely items though which are ideal as gifts so it’s worth a visit if you’re in the World Heritage City of Bath.
