Enoteca Da Luca, Mayfair, London
Mayfair is flooded with many excellent restaurants, such as the Michelin stared Nobu and fairly new to the scene, Sexy Fish on Berkeley Square, which serves Asian fish and seafood with artwork on the walls by Damien Hurst and other well known artists and will be the feature of a Fear On Food review in the new year, but today we are reviewing a lovely little restaurant on Lansdowne Row, just off Berkeley Square.
The restaurant is one of a small chain of four in London, with the other three being in Devonshire Square, Guildhall and St. Paul’s, with the theme of each one being that of a take on the traditional ‘Italian Enoteca’ meaning local wine shop.
The menus are small and simple using the best seasonal ingredients and are served in a lovely welcoming, neighbourhood style atmosphere.
The wine list is extensive, with some excellent wines available by the glass as well as by the bottle and which includes some lovely Italian wines produced by some of the regions smaller wine producers, adding to the unique bespoke nature of this lovely little restaurant.
As Enoteca Da Luca themselves put it;
“Piccolo e bello’ is our philosophy; small menu; small plates to share; and the small details”
The philosophy certainly lives up to expectations and we enjoyed excellent Duck Lasagne and the seafood special carbonara.
On this very rare occasion we were driving and so weren’t able sample the wines, but we will be doing a specific wine tasting at the restaurant in the coming months – in the meantime we wanted to share our experiences of the wonderful food we enjoyed on this early evening supper, because despite being a variation on an Italian wine shop, Enoteca Da Luca certainly do an excellent job of being a fantastic little bistro too
It’s a great venue in which to hold a business meeting too because the seating is arranged in small private booths which are very private. If you walk past and thinks it’s full, it’s worth a look inside because there’s also a downstairs area which is very cosy and cleverly fitted out so you might find a table after all.
Don’t hesitate to look in if you’re in Mayfair, we’re certain you won’t be disappointed!
